The Holden Sandman encapsulates a wonderful era in Australia’s history. It was the mid 70’s, life was groovy and for anyone involved in the Australian beach scene it was ultimate freedom machine.
The Sandman began in 1974 with the HQ and finished in 1979 with the HZ. It was set apart from the standard Panel Van with full GTS options including sports wheel and dash, bucket seats, full length head lining and the sporty Sandman Decals. It came out in either 6 cylinder or V8.
The Sandman coined some classic sayings such as “if this vans rockin’ don’t come knockin” and “don’t laugh, your daughters inside”.
My dad always said “if any bloke comes to pick up your sister in a Sandman, he’ll be met at the door with a shot gun”.
Hence another Legend is born.
